Kaiju No. 8 will return for season two in 2025. The release window was confirmed at the end of a teaser trailer that dropped for Kaiju Day 2024 in early August.
Since Kaiju No. 8 exploded onto our screens showering our eyes with monster blood and guts galore, we have been hooked, but it's not the glorious visuals alone that sustained us throughout season one.
It was the oh-so-lovable, goofy (if not slightly desperate) Kafka Hibino and his relentless attempt to join the Defence Force that kept us going. Nothing could stop him from achieving his dreams of becoming a Kaiju hunter, not even becoming a Kaiju himself.
Season one saw him fumble his way to a place on the battlefield while trying to keep his secret, but now that his monster identity is out there for the world to see, it can only mean one thing: an exciting, action-packed season two.
Let's dive into everything we know about Kaiju No. 8's season-two return.
Kaiju No. 8 season 2 potential release date: When's it on?
Not only has Kaiju No. 8 officially been renewed for season two, but the production company has confirmed that the new episodes will arrive in 2025.
Details of its release next year were shared at the end of a teaser trailer, which gave a glimpse of the devastation already hinted at in the renewal announcement video earlier this year.
The first video that accompanied the season two renewal news showed citizens being advised to evacuate against the backdrop of chaos and destruction. A voice called the Defence Force into action, saying: "First Division, move out. Let's kick some ass."
Judging by this latest teaser, they're definitely doing that.
We know the new season will be available to stream on the Crunchyroll platform, but the question is when? Season one dropped in April 2024, so hopefully, we can look forward to a similar spring release window in 2025.
Kaiju No. 8 season 2 cast: Who will be coming back?
Kaiju No. 8 would not be possible without the Kaiju in question, so we hope Masaya Fukunishi and English dub Nazeeh Tarsha will be back to voice the role of Kafka Hibino.
As for the rest of the crew, we expect the following to return for Kaiju-demolition duty in season two:
• Reno Ichikawa - Wataru Kato Ninhon / Adam McArthur (English)
• Mina Ashiro - Asami Seto / Katelyn Barr (English)
• Kikoru Shinomiya - Fairouz Ai / Abigail Blythe (English)
• Soshiro Hoshina - Kengo Kawanishi / Landon McDonald (English)
• Iharu Furuhashi - Yuuki Shin/ Ben Georg Stegmair (English)
• Haruichi Izumo - Keisuke Komoto / Howard Wang (English)
Kaiju No. 8 season 2 trailer: Watch the trailer here!
As mentioned above, Kaiju No. 8 has graced us with a sneak peek of season two, but be warned, it barely gives anything away.
More splattering guts, more explosive battles and more Kaiju running a muck! Dang, we love it. See for yourself.
It will be a while before we see a full-length trailer for the second instalment.
Still, if Kafka can wait literal years to be a member of the Defence Force, we can wait months for a full season two trailer, right?
What will happen in Kaiju No. 8 season 2?
Kaiju No. 8 is based on the manga of the same name, so the direction of season two is already, somewhat, laid out.
Season one covered chapters 1 through 38, ending with the decision that Kafka Hibino (aka the Defence Force's resident Kaiju) would not be terminated but rather turned into a weapon for their cause.
We can presume that, while there may be a few tweaks to the formula, season two will pick up with chapter 39, but this is a spoiler-free zone, so we won't be leaking Defence Force trade secrets here.
Kaiju No. 8 season one is available to stream on Crunchyroll now.
